Short answer: the Philips HD9860/90 is a Premium Airfryer XXL built around Smart Sensing, five Smart Chef programs and a large 7.3-litre basket. Philips rates it for up to 1.4 kg of fries and gives it a 2,200–2,225 W power range. It is a strong fit when you want one large cooking zone with automatic programs; it is a poor fit if you need independent dual-zone cooking, Wi-Fi appliance control or a lightweight machine to move after every use.

• a whole chicken.

For a whole chicken, Philips asks for the chicken’s weight before the program starts. That detail matters: Smart Sensing is not a universal ingredient-recognition system. It automates selected programs, while other foods still require manual time and temperature choices.

The favourite function is separate. It saves one preferred time-and-temperature combination for a dish you repeat, but it does not expand the number of sensor-led programs.

Capacity: 7.3 litres and 1.4 kg are not the same measure

Philips markets the HD9860/90 as a 7.3-litre XXL model and says it can take a whole chicken or up to 1.4 kg of fries. Litres describe internal volume; kilograms describe a food load. Neither guarantees that every food will crisp evenly when the basket is filled to its maximum.

Single large basket versus dual-zone cooking

The HD9860/90 has one heater, fan, timer and temperature setting. Its XXL basket is useful for a single large batch or whole item, but it cannot run two different cooking programs simultaneously.

• Choose this layout for whole chicken, one large batch or meals whose components share the same settings.
• Choose a dual-zone model when two foods regularly need different temperatures or finish times.

Philips material points owners to its recipe app, now branded HomeID in current support. The exact HD9860/90 product sheet does not advertise Wi-Fi appliance control. Treat the app as a source of recipes and guidance, not as evidence that you can monitor or control this fryer remotely.

If connected operation is essential, verify that feature against the complete model code rather than assuming every Philips product linked to HomeID has Wi-Fi hardware.

Counter space and baking accessories

1. Measure the appliance: Philips lists 433.1 × 321.6 × 315.7 mm.
2. Allow working space: include ventilation and room to remove the pan safely.
3. Plan for the weight: at 7.99 kg, repeated lifting may be inconvenient.
4. Size baking tins correctly: Philips groups HD9860–HD9867 as XXL and lists maximum outer dimensions of 21 × 20 cm, a 20 cm diameter and 9 cm height.
